If one or both of your eyebrows have started to sag, it can have a massive impact on your overall facial appearance. In addition to affecting your facial symmetry and proportions, drooping brows can give you a “tired eyes” look and make you appear like you’re constantly scowling or grouchy. Fortunately, undergoing brow lift surgery in Washington, DC, at Forman Plastic Surgery can correct these issues and fully rejuvenate the upper part of your face.

What Is a Brow Lift?

Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to lift and tighten the skin of the forehead and brow area, resulting in a more youthful appearance. During a brow lift, Dr. Forman makes incisions in the scalp, which he uses to lift the skin and underlying tissues to smooth out wrinkles and raise the eyebrows. In addition to lifting the brows and rejuvenating the forehead, a brow lift can open up the eyes and correct the appearance of “tired eyes.”

The Brow Lift Procedure: What to Expect

Before your brow lift surgery, you'll meet with Dr. Forman to discuss your goals and expectations. He’ll examine your face and evaluate your skin elasticity to determine the best approach for your procedure. He’ll also answer all of your questions and discuss the details of your brow lift surgery with you.

The brow lift procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia and will take place at our on-site surgical center. Dr. Forman will begin by making small incisions in inconspicuous areas around your hairline. He will then lift and reposition the skin and underlying muscles to create a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures or staples, and bandages will be applied. After a couple of hours of monitoring while you rest in our surgical center, you’ll be able to return home, but a family member or friend will need to drive you.

What Is the Recovery Like After a Brow Lift?

After your brow lift, Dr. Forman will give you thorough instructions to ensure a smooth healing process. Expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort after the procedure. These effects will gradually fade over the week following your surgery, and fully subside within about two weeks. You will be prescribed pain medication to minimize discomfort during your healing process. You’ll need to rest for approximately one to two weeks after your brow lift. During this time, you should take regular light walks and sleep with your head elevated. After a week or two, you’ll be able to return to work, but you should wait four to six weeks before engaging in strenuous physical activity.
